A few words
"When we describe the Moon as dead, we are describing the deadness in ourselves. When we find space so hideously void, we are describing our own unbearable emptiness." ~ D.H. Lawrence "Is the meaning of life defined by its duration? Or does life have a purpose so large that it doesn't have to be prolonged at any cost to preserve its meaning?" "Living is not good, but living well. The wise man, therefore, lives as well as he should, not as long as he can... He will always think of life in terms of quality not quantity... Dying early or late is of no relevance, dying well or ill is... even if it is true that while there is life there is hope, life is not to be bought at any cost." ~ Seneca "People will tell you nothing matters, the whole world's about to end soon anyway. Those people are looking at life the wrong way. I mean, things don't need to last forever to be perfect." ~ Daydream Nation "All Bette's stories have happy endings. That's because she knows where to stop. She's realized the real problem with stories-- if you keep them going long enough, they always end in death." ~ The Sandman: Preludes & Nocturnes "The road now stretched across open country, and it occurred to me - not by way of protest, not as a symbol, or anything like that, but merely as a novel experience - that since I had disregarded all laws of humanity, I might as well disregard the rules of traffic. So I crossed to the left side of the highway and checked the feeling, and the feeling was good. It was a pleasant diaphragmal melting, with elements of diffused tactility, all this enhanced by the thought that nothing could be nearer to the elimination of basic physical laws than deliberately driving on the wrong site of the road." ~ Vladimir Nabokov, Lolita "It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend." ~ William Blake Think about it Musicalities! I really don't know. I'm not so good at the initiating bit, myself. I'm especially bad at keeping up with someone if I don't see them very often in the course of my everyday/week. I try to think of folks I'd like to keep up with and text them about every week or so (depending on the person and how busy I know they are.) I don't see most of the people I think of as my friends more often than every couple weeks, usually. But then that's also figuring in the holidays we've had recently. Sans holiday times it's usually a little more frequent. So, just try to make a point, maybe once a week?, to reach out and text/communicate with someone to see what they're up to, did they read/watch X, and whatnot. Yeah, I'd recommend that. re:comment Uh, sure! KC! That would be fun! :D I know I'll be here for a few more years, so... you've got time to plan/figure stuff. Just let me know when you figure you'd like to venture out here. I can help outline places to visit and what have you. :D » invisible on 2014-01-08 03:34:06 It is hard to keep friends; I try reaching out sometimes and see what comes back but as of the past few years, I see a lot of my university friends only because they responded. I do try through social media to go "oh, maybe we should meet someday" with no intention of doing so at all just to see who responds. How much effort goes into keeping a friendship also differs with people. My best friend and I, hardly talk but when we do, its usually non-stop texting for a while. Some people, it's the random 3 minute conversation and just let it die a natural death. I think it is safe that you'd still have us, no matter what? » Nuttz on 2014-01-08 10:32:45 It helps, when making friends, to be forced to see them on a regular basis, anyway. My closest friends are probably the people I work with or go to class with, because we see each other often and just kind of say, "Hey, want to get food, sometime this week?" while we're face-to-face. It's easier to keep people on your mind and make the effort if you see them more often, naturally...but otherwise, it's a bit of effort, and hopefully that effort just seems worth it. » Unicornasaurus on 2014-01-08 09:45:56 i come to accept that there would be people out there who would not go all out for a friend like i do. so what i do is continue to make new friends and drop them a hi on whatsapp out of the blue. but u know what? at the end of the day, u will know who will be there amongst ur social circle throughout ur journey. don't be hard on urself if ur once good friends have slipped away... sometimes it is not necessary to keep in touch with them so frequently... once a friendship is formed, there's no way it will go away... if it does... we just need to find back the sparkle. =) » renaye on 2014-01-12 07:39:12
